Rita's appeal is that she sings honestly; not only of the bright
spots, but of the dark times. Her Celtic-tinged country/folk, gospel, blues,
and rock numbers all speak of her experiences. From her humble roots slinging
hash and cleaning houses, Rita knows first hand about pride, humility,
and trying to make ends meet. Her story is an inspiring one about the climb
to success. The past few years have been exciting ones for Rita. Her record
sales have topped the one million mark in Canada and her audience has expanded
to include Europe, the USA, Japan, and Australia. She has won several JUNO
Awards and Canadian Country Music Awards including "Entertainer of the
Year", and "Best Female Vocalist". In 1992 she was inducted into the Order
of Canada. Her TV show "Rita & Friends" was a big hit for CBC and her
TV specials continue to draw huge audiences.
