The ninth child of twelve, John and his family came to Canada from
Scotland in the mid 60's. His appreciation for the traditional music of
the British Isles was the legacy of an upbringing in a home where music
was an essential facet of everyday life. John's first album "Danny Boy"
was originally compiled and recorded as a 50th. anniversary gift for his
parents. Somehow, Michael Cole and Bill Ballard, principals of the world's
largest concert production firm at the time (Toronto's CPI), took a liking
to John and his talent and decided to manage him. John quit his job in
the pressroom of the Toronto Sun and became a full-time singer. Four albums
and several JUNO Award nominations later, John McDermott is touring the
world selling out concert halls everywhere.
